Caesars Palace headliner Celine Dion is beginning to bounce back a month after dealing with the double-cancer deaths of her husband and longtime manager, Rene Angelil, and her brother, Daniel Dion, within two days of each other.
This week, she not only began rehearsals for her return to the Colosseum next Tuesday, but on Wednesday she also resumed recording sessions in Studio at the Palms with longtime producer and sound engineer Humberto Gatica.
In an Instagram photo he posted from the Palms of the two of them at his piano, he wrote: “Yes, she is back. We are making beautiful music together. Music is the soul to the universe. Bravo, my friend. Love your courage.”
“She is amazingly strong,” I was told Wednesday when I checked on the rehearsals status. “Everything is going well with her and for the performances to start again next week. There is a huge void in her life without Rene, but she’s getting on with the process of living.
“Returning to the stage, which is her real second home, and going back into the studio to finish her next album is what Rene told her to do. She is simply fulfilling his final wishes. He didn’t want her to be miserable and in a dark place unable to work.”
Celine herself has said: “It will be very difficult, but I will continue. It’s what he wanted, and I will fulfill that promise I made to him. I understand that my career was in a way his masterpiece, his song, his symphony.
“The idea of leaving it unfinished would have hurt him terribly. I realized that if he ever left us, I would have to continue without him, for him.”
A friend told the British publication Closer Weekly: “She says she can’t live in mourning with the curtains drawn. She doesn’t want to be depressed forever. You have to let a little light in, even a little laughter.”
Celine is getting a lot of support from their oldest son, Rene-Charles, and twin sons Nelson and Eddy, and also from Rene’s oldest daughter from a previous marriage, Anne-Marie Angelil, who has been here in Las Vegas since the funeral “like a sister.”
Celine returns to Canada in July and August for concerts in Montreal and Quebec City after June dates in Belgium and France. She is at Caesars from Tuesday through March 12 and again May 17 through June 4.
Nothing has been set yet, but it is believed that she will return this fall for shows in October, November and December.
