Pulse Opinion: Why some talented people don’t become celebrities

It is not a mystery why some talented people don't become stars. It has to do with their personality.

I am sure you must have heard the saying “talent isn’t everything.” It’s a common saying in the entertainment industry.

Even though the saying is borderline cliché it is still very true. The entertainment industry is swamped with people with talent. Everywhere you go there are people of talent. It is the most common commodity in the business. Unfortunately, not every talented person transcends into super stardom.

 Wizkid
Wizkid
There are a lot of talented people who are stuck in that spot. They are extremely talented but their careers are stuck. They are not celebrities, stars or idols. These people are just known to be talented, which is nothing really because talent is cheap as they come.
Let’s get to the crux of the problem. Why do some talented people become stars and others get stuck? As I have written earlier that talent is nothing. We all have talent. There is no talentless person in the world.
People’s perception of talent is the problem. Talent is the conveyor. It is meant to take you to a place where all your dreams are fulfilled. Talent is not an end itself, it is the means to an end.

CRIS BROWN

Just having talent won’t turn you into a star. Aspiring singers, and actors should know this. Stars and celebrities are not famous because they have talent. They are famous because people want to be like them, they want to emulate their lifestyles and that is because their personalities are believable.
People want to be like Wizkid not because he has hit singles. People want to be like him because they want his lifestyle. They want to be cool, dress fly, hang around Chris Brown and date hot women.
This is the key to being a celebrity. You have to make people want to be you. You must be attractive enough for people to envy your lifestyle. That is what being a celebrity is. It really has nothing to do with talent. Talent is just an added bonus.

A good example of a celebrity is the Latina actress Sofia Vergara. She is the most famous actor on the hit comedy series ‘Modern Family’. She is one of the highest paid actresses on US television. Here comes the interesting part, the other actors on 'Modern Family' are better actors than her. They also had better training as actors. Sofia Vergara however is more famous than all of them. Why? She is a hot sexy actress that women want to be like and men want to date. Her personality is a commodity that can be sold.
The singer Orezi had a fantastic debut album released last year. Unfortunately there isn’t much buzz about him because he isn’t a celebrity. He doesn’t have an attractive personality that people want to have. There is nothing to hold on to. Think about Davido and you can see the difference.

DAVIDO

It has nothing to do with wealth but charm, mystery and attraction. A star or celebrity must have these three things to lure people to him or her. Without it a talented person remains a talented person and that is just it.
The X factor, that charming, mysterious personality is what movie producers and label owners look for before working with a talent.
This is the reason why you see some talented people who can’t transcend into superstardom. Without a sell-able personality talent is just talent.

Angry mob burn robbery suspect to death in Lagos
The Police Command in Lagos on Tuesday said that a robbery suspect was burnt to death by an angry mob in Satellite Town in the state.
This is contained in a statement issued by command’s spokesman, SP. Dolapo Badmos, in Lagos.
Badmos said that the incident occurred when the suspect, who was shot in the leg by the police after a robbery operation, fell off from a motorcycle while escaping.
He said that the suspect and his gang members, on Monday at about 2.30 p.m. entered a Matrix Stores in Abule-Ado, Satellite Town, for robbery operation.
"They robbed the owner of phones and other valuables but a patrol team attached to Satellite Police Division was quickly mobilised to the scene to engage the hoodlums.
"In the process, one of the robbers was shot in the leg and a double barrel gun with two unexpended cartridges and all the robbed items were recovered.
"The wounded hoodlum allegedly fell off the motorcycle, while they were escaping and was burnt to death by angry mob before he could be rescued while others escaped,” he said.
He said that effort was in progress to arrest other fleeing hoodlums.

Here are Starboy’s secret strategies to Great success

Wizkid does the simple things, but he does them so well, and brings them all together like an orchestra conductor.

Wizkid is currently Nigeria’s hottest artiste and arguably Africa’s most bankable.
His recent collaboration with Drake is just one of the many milestones he has achieved in his career. The Starboy singer has come a long way from the young kid who simply showed up in Banky W’s videos, creating friends, enemies and records along the way.
Many keep wondering what the secret to his success is. Peering closely into his career, Wizkid’s strategy for growth is a simple one. The singer leverages on a lot of external factors, taking opportunities as they come, and showing off a rare brand of bravery off the mic.
Pulse Music outlines 5 of his core strategies and how he incorporated them into his game.

 Releasing Music

Wizkid understands that an artiste with no song is not an artiste, just a celebrity. The Starboy works hard at his craft, recording day and night, coming up with new music, and releasing them. Have you ever questioned why at every point in the industry, since his “Superstar” album, there have always been a Wizkid song on radio, sounding banging and fresh?
This is the basic of everything he has achieved, and he constantly works hard at bringing out the music always, staying fresh in our memories and having a new song on every playlist.

Collaboration

I tried to write out a long list of Wizkid’s collaborations, and by jove, it read out like a long roll call of the biggest artistes in the industry. Wizkid has a song with almost every A-List act on the continent. The singer has songs with Phyno, Olamide, Cassper Nyovest, Uhuru, Tiwa Savage, Chris Brown, Drake, 2face Idibia, and a lot more.
Wizkid finds out the biggest acts in the game, records with them, and leverages on their fan base to grow his stock and career. That’s why these collaborations are an important part of his movement. Without them, he’ll be in creative isolation and stagnation.

 Controversy

The powers that surround Wizkid will never admit this, but Wizkid loves controversies. He doesn’t just attract them by virtue of being a superstar. He smiles when they come knocking and owns them. When Skales attacked him on twitter, he went in. When Davido had a mild beef with him, Starboy came with a bazooka. Linda Ikeji repeatedly went in, and Wizkid was right there, with even messier and petty ammunition.
The Magnum Opus of his celebrity indiscretions will have to be his fight with Dammy Krane. The Hypertek Records act had accused him of theft, and threatened him to a showdown. Wizkid simply found him in a club, and attacked him with a glass cup. Bravo!
Many will point to these fights as detrimental to his brand, but they aren’t. Instead, they keep him in the news, and give him an air of bravery that many appreciate. Don’t mess with Wizkid, they’ll say. He’s a beast of controversy.

 Branding

Wizkid understands the importance of branding. That’s why he is always in your face, in your radio and in the news. New media and technology has been his forte, with his every post and tweet generating massive feedback and interaction. Also, his looks are casual-smart, and his presence, has all the markings of a true star.
That’s Wizkid in five points. That’s why his star is rising, and currently, all of these, simple as they sound, are the secret ingredients to his thriving. Wizkid does the simple things, but he does them so well, and brings them all together like an orchestra conductor.

Linda Ikeji Betty Irabor shows support for blogger

Linda Ikeji Blogger Linda Ikeji

Genevieve Magazine publisher, Betty Irabor, has lent her support for Linda Ikeji, who recently received some online bashing from Wizkid, following her news about the singer's Lekki apartment rent expiration.
Wizkid vented in a long Instagram post about Ikeji's failed relationship with men, also suggesting that his director dumped her after an affair.

Irabor however does not share in Wizkid's opinion about the blogger. Instead she decided to focus on Ikeji's long road to success.
In a Twitter post, Irabor said, "Love her or hate her, @Lindaikeji's journey from Mushin to Banana Island is what testimonies are about."
Linda Ikeji began a career as a blogger in 2006 immediately after her graduation, but her chosen career hasn't been without controversy.
Technology company, Google, temporarily shut down her blog account on October 8, 2014 citing violation of policies, but restored it two days after that.
