Several cultists operating in the Niger Delta area of Nigeria have reportedly turned a new leaf after being touched by the preaching of Pastor Kumuyi.
Five thousand cultists in Ogoni land, Rivers state, have on Friday night, renounced their membership of different cult groups and accepted Christ as Lord and Saviour at a peace and unity crusade organised by different denominations in conjunction with Deeper Christian Life Ministry in Bori , Rivers state.
The cultists who gave their lives to Christ shortly after a sermon delivered by the General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor Williams Folorunso Kumuyi blamed politicians for using them for their selfish goals after which they were dumped to suffer hardship.
One of the church leaders, who spoke to NAIJ after the crusade, said Pastor Kumuyi had earlier met with religious leaders, traditional rulers, youths and community leaders where he asked them to set aside their differences and harness their weaknesses and strengths in order to enthrone peace so as to attract development to the region.
At the meeting which was held at the convocation arena of the Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori, Pastor Kumuyi made it clear that peace and development could only thrive, if the Ogoni people learn to forgive each other, forget their past differences and determine to work together for a better and prosperous life for their people.
He said animosity and hatred could only breed communal clashes, violence and distrust even as he sued for peaceful co-existence among the various clans that make up the Ogoni land.
Pastor Kumuyi assured them that with peace and unity in Ogoni land, God will turn the hearts of government at all levels towards the oil rich community which will lead to progress and prosperity.
He said that when God must have finished doing His wonders in Ogoni, the people will look at their past like a child’s play; saying that the best of their past will be the least in all their endeavours.

CAN President profers solution to Muslim leaders over those involved in Religious crisis

The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria

(CAN)  on Sunday called on all Muslim leaders to speak out against those taking advantage of religion to commit crimes in the country.
The president expressed the hope that the prayers offered by Muslim clerics during the period of Ramadan would be answered to heal the nation.
CAN President, Dr Samson Ayokunle, made the demand in a message signed on his behalf by the association’s Director, Legal and Public Affairs, Kwamkur Samuel, to congratulate Muslims for successfully completing the Ramadan fasting and the celebration of Eid Mubarak.
He said, “It is our hope that the prayers offered by the Muslim Ummah within the solemn period are answered and will go a long way in healing our nation and bringing Nigeria out of her current challenges.
“We encourage Muslim leaders and committed Nigerians to speak out against those who take advantage of religion to commit heinous crimes. On our part as Christians, we will initiate and support all measures that will bring about unity, peace, love and development in our nation, Nigeria.”
Meanwhile, Ayokunle has called on Nigerians to continue to pray for President Muhammadu Buhari as his medical trip to the United Kingdom enters 50 days
Speaking in an interview with our correspondent, Ayokunle, however, said CAN would not be drawn into the controversies concerning the state of health of the President.
He said, “Our own concern is to be praying for him. For me, if he was well, Buhari would have been back to the country by now. So, it is obvious that Buhari is not okay. Before he travelled, he said it was only his doctors that would determine when he would come back. Right from time, we knew that Buhari’s return would be indefinite.”

The House on the Rock church on James Wolfesen Drive, Airport Road, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja was gutted by fire on Sunday, according to reports things destroyed by the fire was worth millions of naira.

According to eye witness reports, the fire, which was said to have started from a power plant, occurred at about 2pm, after the Sunday service had been concluded.
The fire, which engulfed the church premises, located behind the Nigerian Basketball Federation Stadium, could be observed from the neighbouring Garki, Jabi and Gwarinpa areas, which are at least 10 kilometres away.
Despite the rainfall in the area, the fire continued for about an hour as firefighters from the Federal Fire Service and other agencies came to the scene to salvage the situation.
When our correspondent approached the premises, it was noted that security operatives had cordoned off the burning section, as motorists gathered at the roadside.
A witness and church member, who gave his name only as Emmanuel, said the fire started from the plant beside the church, adding that had the firefighters arrived on time, the fire would not have escalated.
He noted that the church buildings had just been renovated and recently inaugurated.
He said, “It was around 1pm that the service ended and everyone went home. The next shocking news we heard was that there is a fire incident in our church.”
The Police Public Complaint Rapid Response Unit said seven fire trucks had been deployed in the scene to put out the fire.
The PPCRRU Head, ACP Abayomi Shogunle, said on Twitter on Sunday that motorists should be careful along the road.
“House on the Rock is on fire. Seven fire trucks are at the scene. Caution is needed if you are driving towards the airport. The cause is unknown,” he tweeted.
The spokesperson for Federal Fire Service, Collins Elechi, said, “Our operatives responded to a distress call from the church. I am in touch with the control room. We cannot ascertain the cause of the fire for now, but we are taking care of the situation.”
The church had yet to make an official statement over the incident as of press time.
