Indonesia Death Row Inmates Meet the 3 Nigerians up for possible execution today

Ahead of tonight's possible execution of the 9 convicted drug addicts in Indonesia, here are the 3 Nigerians amongst them.

If indications are anything to go by, the 10 prisoners on death row in Indonesia for drug trafficking could be up for execution today (Tuesday).

On Saturday, the prisoners were given the mandatory 72-hour notice of execution in according with Indonesian law. Families of the condemned have since arrived the Nusakambangan Island,where the prison holding the condemned prisoners is located.

Inspite of the various calls for leniency by several governments and international groups, the Indonesian authorities have held firm in their decision, with President Joko Widodo refusing to grant clemency to the condemned inmates.

In the meantime, the Attorney-General's office has said the 9 will be executed simultaneously by firing squad.

One of the 10 condemned prisoners, French citizen, Serge Areski Atlaoui still has an outstanding legal complaint over his conviction and may be exempted from today's execution.

The others are Australians Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan, Mary Jane Fiesta Veloso from Philippines, Ghanaian Martin Anderson, Indonesian Zainal Abidin bin Mgs Mahmud Badarudin and Brazilian Rodrigo Gularte.

So who are the Nigerians on the line-up and how did they end up on death row in faraway Indonesia? Here they are.

playRaheem Agbaje Salami (BBC)

• Raheem Agbaje Salami: Believed to be originally Jamiu Owolabi Abashin, Salami  entered Indonesia with a Spanish passport with the name Raheem Agbaje Salami. He was nabbed at the Surabaya airport on 2nd September 1998. In April 1999, a court in Surabaya gave him a life sentence which was reduced by the High Court to 20 years. He however appealed and the Supreme Court gave him a death sentence. His clemency application was rejected on 5th January 2015 and though he tried to challenge the rejection, the move failed and he is currently in the process of applying although the execution is billed to go on regardless.

playSylvester Obiekwe Nwolise (BBC)

• Sylvester Obiekwe Nwolise: Born on 7th July 1965, Nwolise was sentenced to death in September 2004 by a court inTangerang after being found guilty of trafficking 2.6lb of heroin via Sukarno Hatta Airport in Jakarta in 2002. His clemency appeal was rejected in February, 2015. Meanwhile, in January 2015 the Indonesian National Narcotics Body said that Sylvester was running a drugs ring in Nusakambangan jail, where he is being held.

• Okwudili Oyatanze: 45-year-old Okwudili was given the death sentence by the Tangerang court for trafficking 2.4lb of heroin through Sukarno Hatta airport in 2001. Now known as  “The Death Row Gospel Singer,”  as a result of his regular gospel performances in prison, he has reportedly written more than 70 songs and recorded multiple albums behind bars. He has also performed with prison guards as well as fellow inmates. His clemency appeal was rejected in February 2015.
