A multiple accident at the Lekki area of Lagos on Sunday claimed the lives of six persons and left THISDAY correspondent and former Group Business Editor; Omolola Itayemi and Ayo Aminu, respectively, injured.
The accident which occurred along the Lekki-Ajah Expressway, just after
Marwa bridge, was believed to have been caused by a commercial bus,
which rammed into their car and spiralled to yet another car.
Besides Itayemi and Aminu, the accident left so many others with varying degrees of injuries.
A source who spoke to THISDAY on anonymity said: “We are still in a
shock. We were all together at Peninsular Hotel, Lekki, for our annual
Financial Correspondent Association of Nigeria (FICAN) conference.
“They left before me only for us to get to Lekki area and saw the
mangled cars. Upon inquiry, we were told that they were rushed to the
General Hospital at Marina.
“However, when we checked there, we heard they were not admitted, so
the rescuers had taken them to the ambulance unit at the toll gate.
“After they were stabilised, they were then taken to Lagoon Hospital,
where they are recuperating. What is left now is prayers. We are all
praying.”
Another eyewitness, Chris Ikechukwu, a resident of Lekki, said the duo
were leaving Lekki when the commercial bus, which was heading towards
Lekki, veered off and hit them.
He said, “When the accident happened, it took a long while before
emergency agencies came, so it was basically good Samaritans that swung
into action.”
