Chris Colfer’s (fake) tweet that he’s leaving ‘Glee’ briefly wreaks havoc

Well, it’s the day before a national holiday, so naturally there’s going to be some weird news in the entertainment industry. On Thursday afternoon, “Glee” star Chris Colfer apparently tweeted that he had been let go from the Fox series.

Of course, “Glee” fans and entertainment sites exploded on Twitter. Only, that’s really strange, right? Considering that not only has Colfer been an integral part of the musical dramedy since the beginning in 2009 (he was even part of the cast that went on post-high school to New York), but he recently wrote an episode of the show?
Well, the tweet is fake. Colfer’s manager quickly spread word out that his verified Twitter account was hacked.
“None of it is true,” Colfer’s rep told us of the tweet, adding that a) His account was hacked and b) He will be coming back to “Glee,” which starts filming its sixth and final season this year.
About an hour after the tweet was posted, it was still up, but his rep explained that Colfer was on a plane and didn’t have Internet access. The tweet was deleted shortly after that.
20th Century Fox TV, which produces “Glee,” released a statement to Entertainment Weekly and said, “Rumors of his dismissal from ‘Glee’ could not be further from the truth. We love Chris and look forward to working with him again this season.”

“Glee” has been the launch pad for Colfer’s many other ventures. After winning a Golden Globe and landing two Emmy nominations for his portrayal of Kurt, Colfer has gone on to appear in several other shows, write books, and also write and star in an indie film, “Struck By Lighting.” He also has a new book, “The Land of Stories: A Grimm Warning,” coming out this month.
