The Presidency has said that the kind of weapons required by Nigeria to fight Boko Haram can only be provided by the United States of America.
The statement was made by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina.
Adesina said, while speaking on Channels Television programme, “Politics Today”:
“The kind of armament Nigeria requires can only be gotten from that part of the world (the United States).”
“If you recall, the president said if Nigeria has access to that calibre of weapons, it is going to be easy for the war against insurgency to be won in the shortest possible time.”
The US has however refused to sell weapons to Nigeria due to the Leahy Law which prevents it from supplying arms to countries whose soldiers have been accused of committing human rights abuses.
