In the last few years, we have witnessed APC governors, ministers and other lawmakers defect to the PDP for a variety of reasons.
Naij.com prepared a list of politicians who dumped the APC to join the ruling PDP for a better cause:
- Femi Fani Kayode
Current director of media and publicity for the PDP presidential campaign organisation and former minister, Kayode was disowned by the APC in June 2014. Later he revealed that he left the APC for the PDP because “he is a devout and committed Christian” and he could not “remain in a party where a handful of people that have sympathies for Boko Haram and that have a clear Islamic agenda are playing a leading role”.

According to the reports from Sokoto released on 5 February, 2015, no fewer than 6000 members of the APC in Wamakko local government area of Sokoto state defected to the PDP.
The spokesman for the defectors, Alhaji Abubakar Gedawa, said: “We defected to the PDP from APC to ensure the success of the PDP at all levels in the upcoming general elections.”
At the same time another area of Sokoto, Gwadabawa local government area, lost 500 more members of the APC who defected to the PDP to help the party to tackle the challenges of poverty, unemployment and economic development.

In a statement at a press conference in Yola, Gundiri blasted the national leadership of the APC for being insensitive to his actions. He also accused the APC of conceding the party’s structures to Governor Murtala Nyako, without asking for other members’ opinions. In his opinion, this was a “dictatorial and undemocratic” move.
However, recently 6 PDP members of the House of Representatives defected to other political parties. According to the News Agency of Nigeria, taking into consideration the latest defections, the APC now has 181 members, the PDP has 156 members and other political parties 23 members.
